"Get In, Get Involved and Get Back" CSEP Information
What is Certified Special Events Professional (CSEP)? The CSEP designation is the hallmark of professional achievement in the special events industry. It is earned through education, performance, experience, and service to the industry, and reflects a commitment to professional conduct and ethics. The CSEP designation is awarded by the International Special Events Society (ISES) and its Certification Committee. ISES is the only international umbrella organization representing professionals in all disciplines of the special events industry. Education and a commitment to professionalism are cornerstones of ISES. Why Should I Be Certified? The special events industry has experienced phenomenal growth over the past several years and is changing at an even faster pace. Today, special events are more challenging and require a level of professionalism equal to none. Become a recipient of the CSEP designation and set yourself apart from the competition. Please refer to the ISES website for more information. For questions regarding the CSEP program contact ISES Headquarters at 800.688.4737, 312.321.6853 or info@ises.com.

"A Coming of Age"
Join us at Triumph Brewery for beer sampling and an educational speaker: Robert Weinburg of City Food Tours speaking on "The Art of Beer Pairing"
What is the 2009 Regional Education Conference (REC)?
Whether you are a seasoned event oak wanting to branch out with your technical skills, or an event seedling eager to put down roots in the industry and acquire new skills, there will be something for everyone at this year’s Northeast REC! The REC 2009 lineup will lead attendees through a career growing experience that will inspire both creativity and professionalism.
What is the Regional Education Conference 2009 Scholarship?
The Northeast REC offers a diverse mix of learning opportunities, including educational workshops, panel discussions and networking social events. The education offered at Northeast REC is perhaps the best opportunity to meet and learn from event professionals in one place, at one time. To support the conference, ISES Philadelphia has established the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of ISES Scholarship to REC 2009. The scholarship will cover the cost of 1 member registration to the Conference, Saturday Night ISES Lounge and TWO nights hotel accommodations at the New York Marriott Downtown. All valued at $755.00.
One (1) scholarship will be awarded. Recipient may either be:
1. A first time REC attendee
2. Any member in good standing (A Chapter member is not eligible to receive the scholarship for two consecutive years.)
The scholarship recipient must meet the criteria outlined in the application.
Deadline for submissions is February 2nd, 2009

When we were asked to chair the 10th anniversary ISES Northeast Regional Education Conference (REC) we were incredibly honored and excited. Not only is the 2009 REC being held in a city where we are both Past Presidents - the fabulous Big Apple! - but this conference represents everything that we are passionate about when it comes to ISES: continuing education, networking, and creativity.
Working with an amazing team of REC committee chairs we have developed a conference theme that we believe captures the undeniable spirit of the events industry in the Northeast.
We are proud to announce: A Map to Success: Connecting Education to Innovation.

Advice to New and Prospective Members
Locke Johnston, Executive Chef would advise prospective members to make the leap and join and new members to attend meetings and participate. “No other organization provides so many opportunities to interact with your colleagues in the industry. Opportunities to learn, brainstorm, make friends and personal connections and have fun at the same time. The relationships you form can last throughout your career and beyond. ISES also give you a chance to showcase your talents. I was thrilled to win the Liberty Spotlight Award for Best Cuisine and think ISES gives it's entire membership a chance to shine.”
ISES International is Asking for YOUR Stories
As a member of the international ISES MARCOM committee I have been asked to reach out to all of the chapters to generate ideas to promote ISES as well as the industry as a whole to media across the country. We need your help to reach out to the members of your chapter. We are looking for three things from our members:
• Ideas for stories.
• Stories that promote ISES as an industry among corporations; for example “Top 10 things you need to know before you hire an event planner” pitched to Exhibitor Magazine
• Stories that promote ISES members to the end consumer; an example would be “Why should I hire a professional wedding planner” pitched to Bridal Magazine
• Sources/people to be interviewed for stories (please include contact information)
• Periodicals to pitch (please include, local, regional, and national)
All story ideas, sources, and periodical ideas should be sent to me via e-mail. I will then compile them and forward them on ISES headquarters to share with our public relations consultant. Please contact me with any questions. Thank you for your help with this project.
