What is Certified Special Events Professional (CSEP)? The CSEP designation is the hallmark of professional achievement in the special events industry. It is earned through education, performance, experience, and service to the industry, and reflects a commitment to professional conduct and ethics. The CSEP designation is awarded by the International Special Events Society (ISES) and its Certification Committee. ISES is the only international umbrella organization representing professionals in all disciplines of the special events industry. Education and a commitment to professionalism are cornerstones of ISES. Why Should I Be Certified? The special events industry has experienced phenomenal growth over the past several years and is changing at an even faster pace. Today, special events are more challenging and require a level of professionalism equal to none. Become a recipient of the CSEP designation and set yourself apart from the competition. Team Players - What ISES is All About
by Sandy O
Last month, the Society of Wedding Planners (SWP) hosted their first event of the year. The event was hosted by Eventions Productions at their warehouse in Aston, PA. Brian Toner not only offered his facility, but offered to present a program like no other. He wanted to teach brides and wedding planners how to do an off-premise event. Brian teamed up with some of the best in the biz to showcase how it’s done.
This presentation team included Eventions Productions-Brian Toner, Eventricity – Phyllis Jablonowski CSEP, Select Event Rentals – Dave Buckley CSEP, Cort Furniture – Dave Fritz, Table Art – Kathy Patty, DVideography – Dave Williams, Event Quip – Ed Knight CERP, Creative Juice – Sandy O, Majestic Images – Eli Allen, Fireworks Concepts – Eric Walker CSEP, Drexelbrook Catering - Domenic Savino, Robertsons Flowers – Morgan Bedore and Healy Edmonds.
At the end of the networking cocktail hour, a time-lapse video showing how the event was created was projected onto the white curtain that separated the guests from the main room. The curtain was opened to transition the guests from cocktails in to the program portion of the event.
Karen Pecora, president of Society of Wedding Planners, welcomed the energetic group and then each person on the team presented a fascinating program. My personal involvement in the planning of the event was minimal and I was actually able to enjoy the event as a spectator and I must say I was very impressed.
Phyllis Jablanowski, CSEP of Eventricity was our emcee and she led the group through each part of an event. Morgan Bedore discussed large décor and floral elements while Kathy Patty demonstrated different variations of a theme and the drama created with pin spots. Dave Buckley, CSEP discussed rental items and how asking questions is imperative to knowing your client. Ed Knight, CERP went over the key points of tents. Dave Fritz demonstrated the dramatic effects of rental furniture. Eric Walker, CSEP wowed everyone with his Fire and Ice Luminaria. Brian Toner provided the creativity and vision as well as the space and an awesome see-through floor that bridged the gap between his loading dock and the lounge space. Then the entire presentation was wrapped up when Domenic Savino challenged his staff as well as attendees to work together and transform a room set up for a theater style presentation into a party space with five tables and three operating food stations… in under nine minutes.
After the program, guests wandered into the lounge area which was created entirely with a tent, a stage, a truckload of Cort Furniture and of course, lighting. Creative Juice took photos during cocktails and made them into hand decorated photo souvenirs for guests to take home along with generous swag bags.
The thing that impressed me most of all was that so many vendors came together to produce this event. Phyllis coined it beautifully when she said, “We all worked together, there was no drama, we are all colleagues, not competitors.” And on top of it all, take a look at the list….more than half of those vendors are ISES MEMBERS. The room was filled with ISES members too. It is nice to see us working together and supporting our own. It makes me proud to be a member.
